What seems to be an impossibility is now a reality. Java is now open source! Having given a license of GPL, it being included in many linux distros is now very possible. Before, licensing issues prevent it.
The main reason why I don’t like Java is because it’s interpreted. With GCJ, it is possible to compile java code to native code. However, the language support are not complete, making it impractical for use. Now, it is very likely that the language support will be, at least, almost complete. It’s even possible that the main (Sun) java compiler would be able to compile to native code.
Now, I’m thinking if I should be using Java more. At least, I can now recommend or use Java without my (open source) conscience bothering me.
Heck, we live in an interesting time.
