Installing Maple 11 Linux

Apparently, Maple has problems installing in newer systems. Fortunately, I have successfully installed it in my Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring thanks to the heads up in Thomas Themel’s blog. Here’s how:

  1. Run the Maple installer with debugging output.$ bash -x installMapleLinuxSU
  2. Look for the following relevant lines:
    + CLASSPATH=/tmp/install.dir.15592/InstallerData:/tmp/install.dir.15592/InstallerData/
    + export CLASSPATH
    + exec /tmp/install.dir.15592/Linux/resource/jre/bin/java -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xmx50331648 -Xms16777216 com.zerog.lax.LAX /tmp/install.dir.15592/temp.lax /tmp/
/tmp/install.dir.15592/Linux/resource/jre/bin/java: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Note that the last line is the error message.

  3. Execute those lines manually in the shell$ export CLASSPATH=/tmp/install.dir.15592/InstallerData:/tmp/install.dir.15592/InstallerData/ $ exec /tmp/install.dir.15592/Linux/resource/jre/bin/java -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xmx50331648 -Xms16777216 com.zerog.lax.LAX /tmp/install.dir.15592/temp.lax /tmp/
